Why you should switch from “Star Wars” to “Warhammer 40.000”
After years of consuming Star Wars content in various forms, I have started to make the transition to “Warhammer 40.000” and I haven’t looked back since. Here’s why you should too.
Similiar But Different
Both “Star Wars” and “Warhammer 40.000” are popular science fiction franchises that have captured the interests of millions of fans worldwide. While they superficially seem to be quite different, both franchises feature epic battles between good and evil, advanced technology, space wizards, and a vividly-delineated universe filled with unique characters and cultures.

One of the biggest similarities between “Star Wars” and “Warhammer 40.000” is the scale of their universes. Both franchises feature sprawling galaxies filled with countless worlds, each with its own history, culture, and conflicts. Both also feature powerful technologies, such as lightsabers and power armor, as well as magical systems, such as the Force in “Star Wars” and the Warp in “Warhammer 40.000”, which are central to the stories of both franchises.
Despite these similarities, however, “Warhammer 40.000” is a far richer and more detailed universe than “Star Wars.” This is because of the level of complexity and depth in its lore and world-building. “Warhammer 40.000” has a rich history, spanning thousands of years, with a complex web of political, religious and social dynamics, multiple intelligent species and various factions all vying for power and survival. This creates a much more nuanced and detailed universe, allowing for a vast array of story possibilities and character development. In contrast, while “Star Wars” also has a rich history and a large cast of characters, it is not as complex and deep as that of “Warhammer 40.000”.
Additionally, “Warhammer 40.000” features a much darker and mature tone, with stories often delving into themes such as the cost of war, the struggle for power and the moral ambiguity of its characters. This creates a much more compelling and thought-provoking universe, making for a more engaging and satisfying experience for fans.
